It'll definitely have a hard time living up to the legacy of the original.
We're not gonna talk about that translation today, but let's take a look at the localization of the NES Ghostbusters game!
To put the story very simply, it's about three somewhat eccentric scientists who start up a ghost-catching business.
It was a huge hit as soon as it came out, spawning a sequel in 1989 and multiple animated spinoffs.
source particular, both the theme song and the Ghostbusters logo were very popular and have become ingrained in American popular culture.
It's actually a port of what was originally a Commodore 64 game.
The major differences in the NES version are the difficulty, quality of graphics, and ending.
The NES version of the game specifically is famous for being of very poor quality.
For some reason, the NES version changes this to a licensing credit for.
While pressing Start to start the game is pretty much common sense, it's still a strange change to make.
There are some very small differences between the versions, but a couple of these stand out as more interesting.
First off, this screen also ゴーストバスターズゲーム a "Licensed By Nintendo Of America Inc" ゴーストバスターズゲーム, so I'm really at a loss as to why they felt the need to include it on the title screen as well.
Aside from that, take a look at the "Programmed By" credit.
Apparently "Workss" and "Bits" are actually the same company, and they just changed names between releases.
Obviously it has nothing to do with Ghostbusters, so my best guess is they were going for some not-so-subtle marketing or something.
It's a bit of a mystery why it's gone from the NES version, but https://games-list-spin.site/1/5363.html the aforementioned name change, coupled with there being not much need to market themselves in America, led to its removal.
There's also a bug with the shop exclusive to the Famicom version: items are only supposed to give half the sale price when you sell them back, but the Ghost Alarm is actually worth more than its sale price, allowing you to repeatedly buy and re-sell it for infinite money.
This is one of the more famous examples of retro-game Engrish among western gamers.
With 無料ダウンロードベクトルクラウン in mind, I was very curious what the ending was like in the Famicom version.
It is, of course, a bug, but I looked up the ending knowing nothing about it and expecting some kind 野球カードで遊べるゲーム message in Japanese, so it definitely caught me off-guard.
According to a little Googling I did, not unlike the NES versions's in America, this ending is rather infamous in the Japanese gaming world.
The Famicom version has yet another English error: "grate" instead of "great".
Such English mistakes generally don't matter much to Japanese people, but it's strange for that one error to be fixed for the NES version and the rest to be left untouched.
It mentions the apartment building as being the "Temple of Zuul" rather than the "Temple of Gozer" like in the movie, but since the ゴーストバスターズゲーム is labeled "ZUUL" read more, there's not much to be done about that.
Though it does make me wonder why it's labeled that in the first place, but I digress.
One interesting note is that the player takes the part of not one of the film's Ghostbusters, but someone helping them.
It simply says there are "zillions of ghosts" attacking without mentioning why at all.
There's no mention of the characters from the movie, rather placing the player in the part of the owner of a Ghostbusters franchise.
With the actual content of the game matching up to the movie pretty well, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
And yet, they use a line straight out of the movie in the story description!
The English manual also occasionally refers to ghosts as "roamers" for some reason; ゴーストバスターズゲーム not a word from the game or the movie.
In the English version, it's not clear at all that you can change the display back.
The English building scene instructions are pretty useless; the Japanese manual properly describes it as "moving the two Ghostbusters alternately".
However, it does include a line explaining that the goal is to get into the Zuul building as fast as possible.
It also mentions that you can delay ghosts ゴーストバスターズゲーム the map screen by moving into them.
In fact, aside from the Ghostbusters logo, there are no images in the English manual whatsoever.
The item ゴーストバスターズゲーム are essentially the same, though they tend to be a little more detailed in Japanese.
In the English manual, the items are listed in the same order that they appear click here the in-game shop, but the Japanese manual mixes them up a bit for some reason.
Maybe just a design decision?
Also, the English brings out more mentions of "roamers" and now "slimers" instead of just ghosts.
The Japanese manual has an entire extra section explaining the marshmallow man attack event on the map screen.
However, it doesn't mention anything about attacking Gozer with your beam.
What strikes me as interesting is that the game over message as well as other in-game text is nowhere near as bad of English as the ending.
I wonder why just that one part is so much worse than the rest?
Despite the heading of this section being "Out of Business", it actually includes beating Gozer in the list!
There's also a small mention of the aforementioned marshmallow man attack scene.
Finally, there's some hints for the game.
It figures that game this hard would just straight-up tell you to buy a turbo controller.
Unfortunately there aren't actually any Ghostbusters-related tracks on the CD, but there are a couple characters on the cover!
Personally, I think every track is excellent, so be sure to check it out!
First release is at M3 this weekend!
Assuming you don't read the manual.
Will I finally write about a game that's not based on a movie or TV show?
Come back next time to find out!

Such English mistakes generally don't matter much to Japanese people, but it's strange for that one error to be fixed for the NES version and the rest to be left untouched.
It mentions the apartment building as being the "Temple of Zuul" rather than the "Temple of Gozer" like in the movie, but since click to see more building is labeled "ZUUL" in-game, there's not much to be done about that.
And yet, they ゴーストバスターズゲーム a line straight out of the movie in the story description!
The English manual also occasionally refers to ghosts as "roamers" for some reason; it's not a word from the game or the movie.
In the English version, it's not clear at all that you can change the display back.
The English building scene instructions are pretty useless; the Japanese manual properly describes it as "moving the two Ghostbusters alternately".
However, it does include a line explaining that the goal is to get into the Zuul building as fast as possible.
It also mentions that you can delay ghosts on the map screen by moving into them.
In fact, aside from the Ghostbusters logo, there are no images in the English manual whatsoever.
The item descriptions are essentially the same, though they tend to be a little more detailed in Japanese.
In the English manual, the items are listed in the same order that they appear in the in-game shop, but the Japanese ゴーストバスターズゲーム mixes them up a bit for some reason.
I wonder why ゴーストバスターズゲーム that one part is so much worse ゴーストバスターズゲーム the rest?
Despite the heading of this section being "Out of Business", it actually includes beating Gozer in the list!
There's also a small mention of the aforementioned marshmallow man attack scene.
Finally, there's some hints for the game.
It figures that game this hard would just straight-up tell you to buy a turbo controller.
Unfortunately there aren't actually any Ghostbusters-related tracks on the ゴーストバスターズゲーム, but there are a couple characters on the cover!
Personally, I think every track is excellent, so be sure to check it out!
First release is at M3 this weekend!
Assuming you don't read the manual.
Will I finally write about a game that's not based on a movie or TV show?
Come back next time to find out!
